Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay started to discover her artistic and creative side as a child due to her aunt Denise. The aunt who was a night shift nurse, allowed her to study literature for art as well as theater in the daylight. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 film West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay discovered through her example that art can be an instrument for social activism. Her father recalled watching the historic civil right's march along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay's summers spent in Alabama's Selma influence her later on to create a film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. In the year 1990, she was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. When she was a student DuVernay was interested in creating for broadcast journalism. Her first job was as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being given an assignment to watch the residence and scrutinizing the waste belonging to one of the jury. In the course of her duties she was dissatisfied with journalism and moved into the publicity business. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a junior publicist right after college. Her first venture was The DuVernay Agency, her public relations firm in 1999. The company launched a number of promotions and lifestyle channels which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
